WHMIS (FRE-SWHG-E)

Description
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. It is aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). This training reflects the most recent WHMIS requirements and complies with the December 2025 transition requirements.

In every province and territory across Canada, employers are required to provide workers with the information necessary to work safely with hazardous products. This forms part of workers’ right to know, as set out in occupational health and safety legislation.

By completing this module, learners will receive training on:

the requirements for labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS);

how to read and understand a WHMIS-compliant label and SDS;

the hazards associated with hazardous products and their potential effects on health and safety;

safe work procedures for the handling, use, storage, and disposal of hazardous products.

This course is valid for a period of one year for individuals who wish to update their knowledge annually.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to understand and demonstrate knowledge of the following:

WHMIS labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS);

WHMIS pictograms and their meanings;

the various methods of hazard identification;

safe practices for storage, handling, use, disposal, and emergency response measures;

the actions to take in the event of a hazardous situation, including accidental release or uncontrolled emissions.
